Grote Markt, Rotterdam

What happened at the Grote Markt (Big Market) in Rotterdam? In almost every city the Grote Markt is the centre point of the city and has a rich history. It was and still is the place where you can eat, trade and buy things. The Grote Markt in Rotterdam doesn't have those qualities anymore. The history is completely gone because of restructering. In the future the Grote Markt will be a big market again but nowadays it's a big black area with cranes and construction builders.

My idea for this area was to create an intervention that shows the disappearing history in three levels: vermist = missing, verloren = lost and verdwenen = disappeared. Disappeared reacts on the Grote Markt in general whereby missing and lost reacts more on a personal value. In the newspaper I ask the reader to cut out the last page and share what he or she misses at the Grote Markt.

All the pages will be placed back at the Grote Markt on a installation to show the disappeared history and to restore the Grote Markt again.
